Selection Procedure:- Written Test and Skill Test in stenography. 

Qualification:- 12th pass

Age Minimum:- 18-27 years as on 01.08.2014 (Candidates born not before 02-08-1987 and not later than 01-08-1996). 

Exam Fee:- Rs.100 payable through CRF Stamps for off-line application or SBI Callahan or on line payment through SBI in the case of on-line application. 
No Fee for all Women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Physically Handicapped, and Ex-Servicemen eligible for reservation, as per Government orders. 

Who can apply:-
  1. A citizen of India, or 
  2. A subject of Nepal, or 
  3. A subject of Bhutan, or 
  4. A Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January,1962, with the 3 intention of permanently settling in India, or 
  5. A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania(Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar),Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Mode of Payment:- 
  1. For Online - Candidate can apply online through www.ssconline.nic.in. Last Date for Receiving Online Application for Part-I Registration is 25/06/2014 (5:00 PM) and for Part-II Registration is 27/06/2014 (5:00 PM).
  2. For Sending post or applying offline - The candidates submitting Paper application should pay the fee by means of "Central Recruitment Fee Stamps(CRFS)"only . CRFS are available at the counter of all Departmental Post Offices of the country. Recruitment Fee Stamps should be pasted on the application form in the space earmarked for the purpose and got cancelled from the Counter of Post Office of issue with the date stamp of the Issuing Post Office in such a manner that the impression or the cancellation stamp partially overflows on the Application Form itself, taking care at the same time that the impression is clear and distinct to facilitate the identification of date and Post Office of issue at any subsequent stage. After getting the Recruitment Fee Stamps cancelled from the Post Office, the candidate must submit their application to the concerned Regional Office/Sub Regional Offices of the Commission in the usual manner after completing other formalities. Application with CRFS not cancelled by the post office will be rejected outright.

Syllabus for Stenographer:- 
General Intelligence & Reasoning: It would embrace queries of each verbal and nonverbal sort. The check can embrace queries on analogies, similarities and variations, house visualization, drawback finding, analysis, judgment, higher cognitive process, visual memory, discriminating observation, relationship ideas, arithmetic reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetic variety series, non-verbal series etc. The check will embrace queries designed to check the candidate's skills to manage abstract concepts and symbols and their relationship, arithmetic computation and different analytically functions.

General Awareness: Questions will be designed to test the ability of the candidate's general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to Sports, History, Culture, Geography, Economic scene, General Polity including Indian Constitution, and Scientific Research etc. These questions will be such that they do not require a special study of any discipline.

English Language & Comprehension: In addition to the testing of candidates' understanding of the English Language, its vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and its correct usage, etc. his/her writing ability, would also be tested.

SSC Steno Skill Test Pattern 2014:

For Stenographer Grade 'D' -> 50 minutes (English), 65 minutes (Hindi) 
For Stenographer Grade 'C' -> 40 minutes (English), 55 Minutes (Hindi)
